The Indian Nurses Association of New York (INANY) will host a full-day educational program for nurses and nurse practitioners on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kerala Center, 1824 Fairfax Street, Elmont, New York 11003. Centered around the theme “Advancing Care: Modern Strategies in Neurology and Oncology Nursing,” the program aims to update clinicians on critical advances that directly impact patient outcomes. Nurses across the United States and beyond are invited to this powerful spring educational event. The program is designed to equip frontline nurses and nurse practitioners with the latest, most practical knowledge in two rapidly evolving specialties.
INANY is the professional organization and recognized voice of nurses of Indian origin in the New York metropolitan area and serves as a chapter of the National Association of Indian Nurses in America (NAINA). The association is committed to the professional growth of nurses through continuing education, advocacy, scholarships for nursing students, and robust community outreach, including health fairs, back-to-school drives, and humanitarian support efforts. Its members represent a wide spectrum of roles across healthcare, from bedside nurses and administrators to executives, researchers, and educators.

The educational sessions will open with a presentation by Princy Varghese, titled “Stroke: A Neurological Emergency in Real Time.” Her talk will address stroke etiology, symptom localization, and the critical importance of rapid recognition and response. Princy is a nurse practitioner at NYU with specialized expertise in neurology, is board certified in adult–gerontology, and serves as an adjunct nursing professor at Long Island University.
She will be followed by Dr. Susan Thomas, who will present “Parkinson Disease and Exercise,” emphasizing the role of movement based interventions in symptom management. Dr. Thomas brings extensive experience caring for individuals with neurological deficits, particularly those living with Parkinson’s disease and requiring rehabilitation.
Next, Dr. Lincy Jojan will speak on “Oncological Emergencies, Modalities of Cancer Treatment, and Care of Patients with Cancer,” offering an overview of urgent cancer-related conditions and evolving treatment strategies. Dr. Jojan is an Assistant Professor at Adelphi University and a Nurse Practitioner at Northwell Health.
The final session will feature Dr. Nikhil J. Palekar of Stony Brook University Hospital’s Geriatric Psychiatry division, who will present on Rexulti, a medication used in the treatment of schizophrenia, agitation associated with Alzheimer’s dementia, and major depressive disorder. Dr. Palekar is an accomplished clinician, researcher, and educator who has contributed to numerous National Institutes of Health and state-funded studies and has been widely recognized for his patient-centered care. He will be presenting on behalf of Otsuka Pharmaceuticals, the grand sponsor of the event.
