Two weeks ago, approximately 100 young adults, from across North America, gathered in Montreal, Canada for a KYA experience centered on one key focus: authentic connection in real life, in a real city, with real people.
Over three days, participants stepped into shared experiences designed to create space for meaningful relationships to form naturally through conversation, exploration, and time spent together in community.
The weekend opened with registration and a warm welcome evening at a local brewery. What began as introductions and icebreakers, quickly gave way to laughter, storytelling, and the first sparks of new friendships. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, setting the tone for a weekend centered on genuine connection.
Day two brought the group into the heart of Montreal, including a visit to St. Joseph’s Oratory for Mass and reflection, where we were grateful for the presence and support of Fr. Jomon, whose time helped anchor the spiritual moment of the weekend. Rather than rushing through a packed itinerary, the day allowed space for connection, walking the city in groups, sharing meals, and getting to know one another in a more natural way. One of the highlights of the day was a hands-on cooking class at La Guilde Culinaire, where collaboration, teamwork, and a lot of laughter turned into one of the most memorable shared experiences of the weekend.
The final day invited participants into deeper reflection through a workshop titled “Called in Many Ways: Discovering Your Vocation Without Deadlines.” Through personal stories, panel discussions, and interactive dialogue, the session affirmed the beauty and dignity of every vocation while emphasizing that discernment is a journey, not a race. The openness and honesty shared created space for thoughtful conversation and meaningful insight, made possible by the seminar speakers who traveled from across the United States and sent in videos.
This was followed by lighthearted Olympic-style games that brought energy, competition, and plenty of fun before the weekend closed with a final social gathering in downtown Montreal.
Behind the scenes, this weekend was made possible by an incredible network of support. Heartfelt thanks go to our sponsors for their generosity, and to our partners and vendors, from bussing and photography to AV support and venue hosts, whose dedication ensured every detail came together seamlessly.
Yet beyond the planned events, what stood out most were the moments in between: conversations on bus rides, shared meals, quiet walks through the city, karaoke night, night out. These simple, unstructured moments became the foundation for something deeper. The weekend was a reminder that a meaningful community doesn’t need to be manufactured, rather it emerges when people are present, open, and willing to connect.
As participants returned home, there was a shared sense that this was more than just a weekend. It was the beginning of lasting friendships and a growing community that extends far beyond Montreal.
